Hi! My name is Breana Baker and I am so honored to be a part of the incredible staff here at Smart Start. I have been married to my husband Dave for 4 years and we live in Newcastle with our sweet rescue pup Sadie! The love I have for Early Childhood Education goes as far back as I can remember but it wasn’t until my first preschool job 10 years ago that I realized how important the early years were and the positive impact I could have on their growth. I have by BA in Early Childhood Education- I love to learn, and I love applying my knowledge and experience in both the office and classroom settings. My goal is to constantly create a loving, nurturing environment where children can learn through experiences. When I am not in the office or classroom, I love being with my family, friends, traveling, and gardening! I look forward to meeting and working with all of the amazing families here at Smart Start!
Teaching is truly an honor. To be able to touch the lives of young children is such a formidable time and huge responsibility that I do not take lightly. It has always been my passion to work with children and give them the confidence they can take with them to the next stepping-stone in their life.
I am a wife and mother of two amazing children. My family, my work and being a great mother is what I strive for everyday. When I am teaching I look at each child as my own and want them to feel important and respected for their individuality. Everyone has their own way of learning and it is my job to help my students find their strengths that give them the ability to succeed.
When I am not teaching I love to spend time with my friends and family. I’ve always enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, camping, and boating with loved ones. I also spent a lot of time as a co leader for my daughters Girl Scout Troop. Being a troop co leader is an amazing way to give back to the community and make wonderful memories to last a lifetime.
Becoming a teacher felt natural to me and I am thrilled for my continued adventure here at Smart Start School. I am really excited to work for such an inspiring school and wonderful staff.
I have been teaching at Smart Start since 2006. I am married to my best friend Caleb and we have an adult daughter. I am an animal lover and a huge Disney fan.
My love for teaching goes hand in hand with my love of learning. I enjoy geography and social studies and one of my favorite things is teaching my students about the world. I have a love of traveling that only flourished a few years ago and I’m always looking for new ways to engage my students and instill a lifetime love of learning.
I am so proud to be a part of Smart Start! It is such a magical place that I think every child deserves in their life.

Hi, my name is Kristyn Cianci and I am so grateful for the opportunity to work at such a progressive, loving, well-rounded preschool. I graduated from Notre Dame de Namur University in 2014 with a B.A. in Liberal Studies and a concentration in Child Development. I have been involved in various preschools with differing methodologies for the past 8 years. My experience includes Montessori, Play-Based, Head Start, Public as well as Academic Programs. It is my belief that preschool is the platform for a healthy outlook on education, one that sparks excitement and interest. The acquisition of knowledge should be exciting and fresh, something that our children look forward to each day, something that hopefully they begin to acquire on their own accord. It is my desire to create an atmosphere where children are active seekers of knowledge, and I plan to accomplish this through exploration, exposure, freedom to make a multitude of choices, and gentle guidance. I am passionate about allowing children to develop an authentic sense of self. In my personal life, I have been married to the love of my life for 11 years now, and we have three beautiful, strong-willed children together. I enjoy spending quality time with my family. My hobbies include gardening, reading, renovating, and exploring the outdoors. I consider myself a life-long learner, and make it a point to stay current with educational practices. I am so excited to begin this journey with Smart Start, and equally excited to create meaningful, magical experiences for our Smart Start children.
My name is Mary and I am very excited to start a new year with your children. I have been working with children for over 20 years, from newborn to the age of 12. I have extensive knowledge in academic preschool standards and come from a background of strict safety guidelines and practices. I have direct experience in managing and supporting a cohesive, collaborative, efficient, and effective classroom environment where children learn accountability. I believe that in preschool children should be respected and should have fun. It’s the fun that keeps them excited to learn each day, and excited about drop-off. I enjoy developing personal relationships with each child, and care for each child as if they were my own. I am extremely patient, nurturing, and consistent. I have been with Smart Start for a year now, and was with my last center for over 11 years. I look forward to meeting all of you and seeing what a fun year we can have through learning.
